Mr. Henry Marston (also known as Henry Marsh) was best known for his portrayal of Shakespearian leads, especially during his time at Sadler's Wells under Samuel Phelp's management. [1]
Mephistopheles is a demon character from the Faust tale of Germanic origin. [2] the exact production of Faust that Mr. Marston played Mephistopheles in is not known at this time.
This tinsel print is unique in the collection as it is mounted on glass. Unfortunatley this glass was broken at some point, and it currently in the conservation lab undergoing treatment.
