Columbine

RDC_59RecRefBT.jpg

The English iteration of Columbine evolved from the Italian serving maid. Although Columbine and Harlequin do not always end up together in comedia dell 'arte, by the final scene of an English harlequinade, their love always triumphed. Although Columbine was a largely silent role, there was the rare occasion when the story required her to sing. Just as how the acrobatics of Harlequin were meant to enhance his comedic value, Columbine's graceful dancing is meant to emphasize her feminine charms.
